Recovering from Heart Surgery
Unlike most operation, I think heart surgery is the one that needs lots of recovery time. Generally, you have to spend time in the intensive care unit after the procedure until your doctor tells you that you are already stable and you may continue recovering at the hospital’s recovery room. After your heart surgery, it is important to be in machine tubes at least for a while to help your heart cope up with its daily activities, usually an oxygen tube for 2 days is recommended.
Recovery from Heart Surgery involves lots of special therapy. Do not get in a hurry to do physical activities immediately, start from simpler ones like getting up and feeding your self. Let the healing be gradual but not to the extent that you will pamper yourself, anyway your doctor will even advise you get moving once physically possible after surgery to promote faster recovery.
Always coordinate with a special therapist to help you with your exercises to clear the lungs of fluid. Although the doctor may allow you to go home at least a week after the surgery, you have to prepare yourself for a long recovery period at home. Be patient with your housemates, they may not realize the pain and most probably boredom you are undergoing after the surgery. Be positive and start changing your lifestyle into a healthier one.
